There's something fishy going on in Beyoncé's new music video.
On the film set, the curvy singer - whose alter ego goes by the name Sasha Fierce - donned a shimmering dress that gave her the distinct appearance of a mermaid.
Clad in silver sequins that resembled scales, with flashes of colour adorning her gown, she would not have looked out of place swimming about the ocean deep.

It wasn't the only unusual item of clothing she wore on the shoot in downtown Los Angeles.
Beyoncé, 27, also experimented with some interesting headgear. One hat featured a number of conical spikes, while another resembled a spider web [which resembles fractured glass].
The action-packed video sees the normally clean-living Beyoncé light a cigar [phallic, she's in her 'fierce' alter; this is a standard example of how the 'wild'/mischievous alter's self-destructive behavior by smoking and such], before tossing the lighter onto a car and causing it to explode.

The singer has undergone something of a transformation of late.
In true diva-style, and in a concerted bid to build upon her iconic status, Beyoncé has now insisted on being known as Sasha Fierce when she performs. [went into this alter of hers previously, can't be bothered to repeat]
The American R'n'B star's third studio album is even pointedly entitled I Am... Sasha Fierce.
While Beyoncé prefers the au naturel look, Sasha Fierce goes for big hair, dramatic clothing and lashing of eyeliner everytime.
As well as some striking headgear, Beyoncé donned the cyborg-style glove that is a trademark of her alter ego, Sasha Fierce.

In a recent interview with V Magazine, the 27-year-old explained that she has long felt like a totally different person on stage, hence the name change.
She said: 'When I'm onstage I'm aggressive and strong and not afraid of my sexuality [RAWRRR]. The tone of my voice gets different [hallmark of MPD switch], and I'm fearless. I'm just a different person.

Beyoncé has discussed her stage persona, previously known as simply just 'Sasha', before, but the singer is now making the alter ego more prominent than ever.

Her 17-track double-disco album, which was released in the UK on Monday, has already entered the Japanese International Album Chart at number one following an earlier release date.
It comes as the singer prepares for a huge 110-date world tour starting next year. She is destined to hit London's 02 Arena [DOME] in May, where she will perform tracks from the album including If I Were A Boy and Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).
